Out in the park it’s showtime. Huntress skulks like a discarded toy beneath the coils of a serpentine coaster. Wild Wired World. All strobes, spills and inverted loops. Just like the old days. Beyond, Forevermore jumps with a thousand dancers. Kibbutz is throwing one helluva party.

Sister’s grinning like a one-woman crusade. Dingo’s at her side. I’m a little behind. Midnight’s armed with her blade and chain gun. Wonder Dog’s got a pistol and two knives. All I could find was Shrago’s leathers and Lucille’s mink. And a rather neat machine pistol. Danzu. Complete with folded stock and twelve clips. Twelve clips! That’s the most ammo I’ve ever owned. No way a D&K, but it’s a start.

Looking at the jacked-up ride reminds me of the headmans, so we’ve all decided we’ll use those instead of yakking. May need to split up or get split up. May get overheard planning to grease my sicko brother. Whatever. Get Dingo to have a peek at my busted unit. Finds it’s just shit in the drum. Two shakes it’s back online. Now we’re ready to roll.

“OK, let’s go to tactical.”

The others look round, then reach for their temples.

This is Nowhere. Receiving?

Yeah.

Yessum.

Each of their voices are just a monotone buzz. Can’t tell the bitch from the dog.

That’s no use. We’ll have to revert to t-com.

Whassat?

A-Men code. Way of beating the system.

Oh, OK.

T-com parameters are simple. Just handle and termination.

“It’s easy, Dingo. Show him how it’s done, Jack.”

Nowhere on. The red moon is high tonight. O ’n’ O.

Midnight on. Jack, what in hell’s you on about?

Ah, piss off, ya black mother.

Dingo on. This is gonna be fun. O ’n’ O.

Nowhere here. Well, at least it’s all working again.

Now it’s time for the steal. Somewhere out there in funland is Joseph. Core won’t be far away. Still don’t relish getting that close. Gonna be hot near the centre. But where else’ll they be? If brother’s here, he’ll be up someone’s ass. My betting’s on the King. Knights’re probably bending over backwards anyhow. Trying to impress. Got a lot to lose if Osakimo slip through their fingers.

Nowhere on. This park’s split into areas. We need the dark ages. Place called D’Arkadia. Seen anything like that?

Nope.

Like I said we came through Sleepybubbyeland.

Where’s this coaster, Midnight?

Central.

Suppose we could get the Wonder Dog to climb it…

Dingo here. I’m on my way!

Quick as a flash, Wonder Dog stows his piece and heads for the main booth. Whole place’s done up like an electric chicken. Halts at the door. Fumbles at his belt. Pulls out a grey spanner. Goes to work on the lock. Thing’s open in eight. Dingo’s through in ten.

Sister here. Jack, let’s get under cover.

Cool.

Stoop beneath the transport’s carriage. Hide behind one of its huge three-toed feet. From here I see a blood trail. Leading into the bushes. Two bodies lie gutted on a flowered rockery.

“Guards?”

The black nun smiles.

“Cake.”

Dingo reports in that he’s found a hatch that emerges from the roof. Up some rusted service ladder. Splits in two about ten metres up.
